    The Ministry of Ecology and Environment has issued Standard HJ 1473-2026, which shall come into force on August 15, 2026. This standard specifies the technical requirements and test methods for portable infrared absorption analyzers used to detect sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and carbon dioxide in waste gas from stationary pollution sources.

    To improve ecological and environmental quality and standardize the technical performance of the aforesaid analyzers, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment formulated and released Technical Requirements and Test Methods for Portable Infrared Absorption Analyzers for Sulfur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxides and Carbon Dioxide in Waste Gas from Stationary Pollution Sources (HJ 1473-2026). This is the first release of the standard, with an implementation date of August 15, 2026.

    It unifies the technical access requirements and test rules for portable infrared absorption analyzers measuring SO₂, NOₓ and CO₂ in waste gas from stationary pollution sources, fills the gap in dedicated standards for portable infrared monitoring equipment, and enhances the compliance and comparability of data from on-site law enforcement and emergency monitoring.

The standard defines the structure, technical requirements, performance indicators and test methods of portable infrared absorption analyzers (hereinafter referred to as "the analyzers") for SO₂, NOₓ and CO₂ in waste gas from stationary pollution sources.

     It applies to the testing of such analyzers, and can also serve as a reference for their design and production. The technical requirements for other portable gas monitoring analyzers with absorption characteristics in the near-infrared band may also refer to this standard.

     As a fundamental and mandatory standard for portable infrared monitoring of waste gas from stationary pollution sources, HJ 1473-2026 focuses on unifying technical specifications, ensuring data quality, and supporting environmental law enforcement and carbon management. Its implementation will regulate the market, improve overall monitoring capacity, and facilitate targeted ecological and environmental governance as well as the achievement of the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
